WYSIWYS- The Trigger of Faith

23 For verily I say unto you, That whosoever shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things which he saith shall come to pass; he shall have whatsoever he saith. 24 Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive [them], and ye shall have [them].

These words spoken by the Lord Jesus are both revelation and life Changing if we can get a hold of what He is saying. There are some things we need to understand about this verses of scripture.

First, Jesus said if you will say to this mountain - I believe there was a physical mountain in sight, and he must have been pointing at that mountain and using it to teach the disciples and us how faith works (remember, the story started with the Fig Tree that Jesus cursed the day prior (vs 11-13) and Peter remembered and said "the tree did what you told it" (paraphrase mine). The Jesus said to them "have faith in God" (vs 22). The he went further to explain what He meant by "have faith in God". The Mountain on the other hand could also mean any problem -physical, financial, mental etc that could be in your life. Jesus was( and is) showing you and I how to deal with such situations. Speak to them. Secondly, there are three "say" ( or a form of it) in verse 23 and only one "believe".  Verse 23 "For verily I say unto you, That whosoever shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things which he saith shall come to pass; he shall have whatsoever he saith." Notice there are 3 "say" and one "believe". Think about it for a second, Jesus Spoke to things all the time. Jesus spoke to the fig tree (vs 11-13), He spoke to the winds and waves (Mark 4:39). A lot of people think its strange if one speaks to things or situations. I beg to differ. Bless God, when circumstances come your way, open your mouth and speak to it. You must speak your faith, because you can have what you say.Thirdly, Jesus said "and does not doubt in his heart, but believes". The other important part of the ingredient to having what you say is to believe in your heart. Rom 10:10 said "for with the heart man believes". You cannot believe with your head or your mind, that will not be faith. You must believe with your heart. You have to also understand that faith is acting on what you believe. One way to act on your belief is to say what you believe. BUT you must believe that what you are saying will happen.

Fourthly, a lot of people get hung up on these verse when the thing does not happen the next day, week, month, year. Jesus NEVER attached TIME to FAITH. He just said believe. Time is primarily the thing that defeat a lot of people when it comes to their faith. Many people today have faith, but the moment the thing is not happening based on the schedule they have or think it should be , they abandon their faith (see these references  Heb 6:12, 2 Thess 1:4, Rev 2:19). I heard Dr. K.C Price say "you must have the attitude that if it takes 27,000 year, you will be standing in faith 27,000 years 1 day later" This is the kind of attitude that will receive from God the father. We know it will never take that long, but my point here is... don't give up after time has passed. God never said anything about time and your faith. Just trust God and it'll come to pass.

Fifthly, another thing to note in these 2 scriptures regarding saying is in verse 24. Jesus said "whatever you desire, when you pray believe that you receive them and you will have them." When do you have them? - when you pray, not before, not after. The moment you pray, believe you have them. What do you do when you pray? you use words to convey your desires to God, right?. Well, same thing Jesus said about that mountain in verse 23. Speak to it. Said another way, use words. We know that verse 24 is a continuation of 23, He is still talking about saying or speaking to the mountain. So, when you pray it, you have to say it and when you speak, you are still saying it. So, in both cases, you are still saying something. So when you believe the word of God in your heart and you say it, you shall have it. So be careful what you are believing and what you are saying. It has application in every area of life - health finance, family. For example, If you believe you'll die in your sickness and you keep saying it, you shall have it. But if you turn that negative speech and attitude around and believe the word of God instead and speak it out, You shall have what you say also. As a sample say "by his stripes, I am healed"(2 Pet 2:24). Also say "Himself took my infirmity and bore my sicknesses" (Mat 8:17). Notice I have personalized those scriptures, that is how you make the word of god work for you.

Finally, if you are not saying what you believe, you need to check if you really believe. look at the following verses of scriptures 2 Corinth 4:13 "We having the same spirit of faith, according as it is written, I believed, and therefore have I spoken; we also believe, and therefore speak". Don't be a quiet Christian, speak your faith. We see Jesus demonstrate this over and over. Speak what you believe. If you don't say it, you don't believe it.

In summary, we have learned from Jesus through these passages we have examined that to have faith in God means:

  • Believe in your heart.
  • Speak what you believe with your mouth.
  • When you pray, you still have to say it.
  • If you don't say it, you don't believe it.
  • Ignore time where your faith is concerned.
  • You shall have what you say.
